TMJ Jaw Pain CASE STORY

TMJ – Jaw Pain

A middle aged lady presented to the clinic complaining of constant jaw pain and teeth grinding at night time.

Her jaw discomfort developed post operation. The pain was not responding to any form of treatment.

Three months of weekly physiotherapy and dental work did not resolve nor limit the jaw pain.

The jaw pain and teeth grinding were aggravated after periods of stress.

Stacy massaged the jaw, neck and shoulders using local trigger points to activate circulation in the tissues and muscles. Acupuncture was used to release the tension in the joint and surrounding area. During the treatment the lady reported that she felt the area release and the pain reduce.

A week later at follow up, she reported that the teeth grinding and pain had resolved.

She returned two weeks later after a period of stress with jaw tenderness and discomfort.

A similar treatment was repeated resolving the pain. She was shown massage techniques to perform at home.

The lady is now pain free and occasionally returns to the clinic when she is under great stress.
